Hi Rich. Have a look at our changing username pages, though I expect the easiest way is to just register the new name. (You could also update your signature to have a space between your names in Special:Preferences, if that does the job for you!)

Re: page layout and the like

[edit]

Hi Rich! Welcome to the encyclopedia! I've dropped you a welcome message above, hopefully it will help point you in the right direction. You're right, the encyclopedia is relatively bland looking, but that's generally how the community as a whole likes it to be, it keeps things moving quickly and is easier to edit. However, if you know a bit about HTML and CSS, there's no reason you can't make your userpages a bit more lively! You're of course welcome to reuse any of mine to create your own, and I can give you a hand with that in the future if you like.

If you want to change your username, since you've only got 3 edits, I think the best thing to do is just go to Special:UserLogin/signup and register a new account, leaving this one by the wayside. It's possible it won't work because the username is too similar, and if that's the case, I'd suggest you go to the changing username page and ask them about it (I think you can take the simple route, User:Rich Monday doesn't exist)

After that, the world (or the wiki) is your oyster! Things are strange, but once you get used to them, they feel really natural. We try to give the advice that you should be bold, you can't "break" anything - if you think an edit is improving the encyclopedia, do it. If someone disagrees, they can always revert it and you can have a discussion. If you're still a little stuck on the syntax, have a look over the tutorial, which gives handy hints on how to edit. You've even got a sandbox at User:RichMonday/sandbox where you can experiment to your hearts desire.

Unfortunately, you've caught me at a bad time, as I'm going to be away for a little over a week, off on a little holiday! I've added an invitation to the Teahouse, where there's lots of helpful editors, or if you leave a message on my talk page, I'm sure one of the friendly people who watch my page will be able to help you out. Otherwise, give me a shout next Monday and I'll help you with anything you like, and could even give you some pointers in my adoption school WormTT · (talk) 13:13, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rich

[edit]

Hey Rich, I left a note on Worm That Turned's talk page about your username change request. I have your talk page watched now, and if you ever need any assistance please feel free to leave a note on my talk page. If you notice at the bottom of Dave's page, you'll see he is on a Wikibreak and might not be able to respond for a while. Happy editing! Ryan Vesey Review me! 07:07, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I replied at my talk page, but it appears that while I replied the bureaucrat I notified changed your name. Congrats! Ryan Vesey Review me! 16:13, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ryan, I am so stoked. Thanks so much. It must have been all that kindness that you exude when communicating with you. So far I've had 2 out of 3 good experiences with editors. But I'm not done with you...LOL! Is it proper to ask questions that are related to learning and training newbies? Because I can't figure out the picture placement on my page yet. I tried several different ways, but with know luck. It puts 2 examples on the page right? I know it's probably simple, maybe if you have a minute you can drop me a clue. The last thing is this. Looking back now on your time here, what's something you wish you would have done different, or done first, while you were learning everything at Wikipedia? What I'm asking is where should I start and finish in learning to have fun here with building my own stuff, but also later becoming an editor? Sorry for the loaded questions, but I want to get off to a good start and I am really clueless at this point and want to start in the perfect direction of learning this website. Thanks again Ryan. I hope to talk to you more later. You are aces in my book man. Bye, Bye! RichMonday (talk) 04:09, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What is the name of the picture? All you need to do is type [[File:PICTURE NAME.jpg]] or.png or.svg whatever file type it is. For example if you wanted to include the picture JustAnExample.JPG you would type [[File:JustAnExample.JPG]] and it would look like . I'll hopefully get to the rest of your question later, but I need to leave for a couple hours now. Did you see the comment I left on my talk page? I left a few tips on how you can get started editing. There are a couple other places you can go if you need help too. These include the help desk, the teahouse, and the new contributors' help page. The teahouse is by far the most friendly area of the three and the help desk is good for asking technical questions. Ryan Vesey Review me! 13:10, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when they said it. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 08:08, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
